People like us

Watching this video of "People like us" have made me see this social class thing so differently. I've always thought about social class but never really thought about it as something so big or that even really mattered. But watching this have made me see the big picture. Social class is something major and there is more to it then saying your just middle class or upper class. Social class depends on your race, occupation, who your parents are, and maybe even the car you drive and the house you live in. They've made some great points. The critics and the people that judge others because of the way they dress, talk, the school you go to, and the education your parents have gave you is like he said is like still living in high school all your life. I think that no matter what class you come from you should be able to do as you please because social class shouldn't tell you who you are. We are living in the same world living up to some big dreams that we have for our selves. The video "people like us" is a video that all these upper class and middle class should take a look at because then they could see how hard some people have it or how some don't put themselves in the situation they are. Some work very hard to make it up and some work very hard to stay up. Mostly everyone in America see them selves as middle class people while really really we all really have this specific class in which we are from that we don't see. Race is also something that has a lot to do with because if your black your automatically from some other class you could be in a nice house and have nice car and those will see you as nothing.

Positive functions of the undeserving poor

This short story have made great points on both the poverty today and the judgmental stereotypes that we have today in society. Poor people and those who are on the welfare are all judged as if they were bad people just because they are were they are. But they shouldn’t be judge or denied any type of help because like they mention in this story the unemployment rate is ridiculous. In this story he speaks about the five sets of functions and then the 13 specific functions. He explains how each have these functions have there pros and its cons. I think he have made some valid points no one should be judge because of what they are For instance, the drug user, those who want to succeed and those who cant even find a job even if they wanted to because if your a no experience person or because of your history they will deny you any opportunity in becoming anything or even being able to get a job. Poverty has a lot to do with it because those who have nothing at all really don’t have a choice for example, those who try to stay out of trouble but cant because no one is really giving them a helping hand. So maybe it all have to do with those who surround them and criticize them instead of helping it all make a different and they aren’t all the same just because they are what they are some don’t ask to be put in that difficult situation.

In this chapter that I've been looking over. I've notice how gender has a lot to do with it all, because men and females are so different in many ways. The value and Norms they have for themselves are completely different from one another. For example, if a man goes around getting many girls he's cool but if a women try's doing something like that she'd be the worst person. Everyone in this society that we live in today are completely different I agree because we all come from different Norms we all are raised to be what our parents wants to be or how they want everyone to view us. It all really comes down to that.
